NEWS

All, it is time to renew our annual membership fee, so at this time the Board would like to inform the members of FCCIC, a few of the things we were able to assist in, as well as a few things we are currently assisting in:

As head of the planning and zoning committee, Cameron Lueken was able to talk with the people involved with the open burn ban and achieve a favorable outcome for future home builders and developers.

The presence of FCCIC members at a meeting of building officials concerning permits and inspections for mechanical or electrical upgrades or improvements helped curtail that from happening at this time.

Members of FCCIC are currently sitting in with building officials that are reviewing changes to our current building codes. FCCIC members are there on behalf of its members

The political forum put together by members of FCCIC was very well attended and a huge success. We have very favorable responses from the politicians.

Members of FCCIC have been extended an invitation to appear on 1350 A.M. “The Mouth” (Brian Nieves Show) to discuss topics concerning and relating to the construction industry as well as planning & zoning issues in Franklin County. Below are a few topics that we will touch on.

  • $8,000.00 tax credit for first time homebuyers
  • Fire sprinklers in residential homes
  • Building code review in Franklin County and municipalities
  • Ground source heat pumps and tax credits
  • Home insulation and tax credits
  • General information and education in construction
  • Government oversight----tied to building cost
  • How planning and zoning codes affect the homebuyer
The Board of FCCIC would like some feedback from its members on the above issues, as well as anyone who might be interested in talking about an issue on Brian’s radio program. Please respond to a board member.

FCCIC has purchased the inspectors version of the 2009 building code books. They can be viewed at the Mentz Foundations, Inc. office at #57 Corporate Drive, Union, MO.

Editorial – Washington Missourian:  Political yard signs are popping up everywhere, an obvious reminder that it's election season. But there are other, less apparent signs that it is election time.  Commissioners recognize that developers and building contractors are a political constituency that they are going to have to appeal to this election cycle.  Developers in the county are starting to flex their muscles.

Editorial – Missourian:  Franklin county was sued again this month. That's nothing new for our county or for other counties across the state and country for that matter. Members of the Franklin County Commission declined to comment on the lawsuit filed earlier this month against them by a local developer who wants to create a village on property he owns off of Holtgrewe Road south of Washington. The developer is suing specifically to force the county to put his petition for incorporation of a village on the August ballot.

County Wants Moratorium on Revised Open Burn Ban – Missourian:  Franklin County officials are hopeful the state will consider placing a moratorium on a revised open burning rule that is causing a hardship for the county and area home builders.

Building Industry Council Formed in Franklin County – Missourian:  A new building council formed in Franklin County is offering service and education on the current building industry.

On April 21st and May 19th, the Franklin County Planning and Zoning Department will hold a public hearing on ordinances changes.  The changes can be seen at the Franklin County website.  Please review and use the contact page if you have any questions.
